Is he doing this out of love? Or out of obligation?

I left my ex-fiancee (of three years) 5 months ago. The reason for the split had to do dishonesty and betrayal on his end. Instead of sticking around and trying to make it work (which would have been extremely painful for me) I decided to move away from the country and back to the city and try to get a bit of my old self back. During the last year we were together we made continued to make plans for our future. Part of these plans involved me purchasing a larger 2nd car, which would be our "winter", "family" car. When I bought this car I did not foresee the breakup of my relationship. I bought it with the intention of it being "ours". So to cut a long story short, I am now owe a lot of money on a car that I no longer need and use because I live in the city. My ex offered to keep it and help make payments for it until I either got back on to my feet or moved to a place where I can keep and use my car.
