The Oil from emus and Goannas has been used in Australia since before time. There could be side effects if you are allergic to any of the ingredients contained. I use the emu oil straight for skin care and I have fairly sensitive skin. not sure about patents and the like in USA but I like the Firebrand and Sunspirt brands of emu oil.
