I have Hughes net, can i connect a modem to it?

I want to know if I can connect a modem or router to my ethernet cable, which is coming up from the basement, so that i can have wirless internet. Also, I have a Mac upstairs. Is there a way that i can make that have wifi. Thanks in advance
